What Happened To Pick-Up Lines?

These images are from the website pickuplinesworld.com, and I think they're so cute, so I picked three of my favourites!

But today, I want to talk about pick-up lines, or rather, the lack of them that I've experienced.

This thought came to be because, lately, I've just noticed how creepy guys on the street are!

For example, this week, I've had a man ask me where I was going - then if he could come with me! Then, when I didn't respond, he told me how 'fine' I was.

Another guy asked me where I lived (!), then told me where he lived (I didn't answer his first question) and then ask me for me number, to which I said no.

I just don't get it. Has anyone ever dated someone because they came up to them and asked them creepy questions?

What happened to those cheesy pick-up lines that we see in those old American movies where the popular guy falls for the geeky girl and live happily ever after because 'they're an unconventional couple, and opposites attract'

I mean, if someone came up to me with some cheesy pick-up line, I'm so much more likely to laugh and think they're cute, than if they come up to me and ask me where I live (I mean, who goes up to someone and asks them where they live anyway??)

And I guess I just... miss romance.

Well, no, not miss romance, I've never had romance. But I miss the movie romance that I've grown accustomed to and fallen in love with. And it's scary to think that maybe this ideal of romance is all in my head and it just doesn't work that way in real life, but I refuse to believe that.

I also have to point out that I don't walk the street looking for guys to pick up - I've actually never gone up to someone in the street, they've come up to me.

But I really want your opinions on this. Do you miss pick-up lines? Do you still get pick-up lines? Do you use pick-up lines on other people?

This is a really interesting topic that I would love to discuss with you guys!

    I feel exactly the same- I have no idea why people think it's going to work out by asking creepy questions but I find cheesy pick up lines really cute- so they should definitely come back!

    I had a guy use a Michael Buble lyric on me as a pick up line... Didn't work lol especially when he thinks he came up with it and I'm like no mate! There is such a big difference between creepy questions and cheesy pick up lines haha but gah some people just bring out ones that aren't cheesy at all! A guy once said and I a quote, "are your parents terrorists? Because you're the bomb?" and immediately I was like that isn't cute or funny at all. Like funny pick up lines which make me laugh are good! Creepy/stupid/plain rude/innapropriate ones are a no from me! Didn't mean for this to be an essay comment hahaha! Em xx

When ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse, he soon finds that his past is quickly catching up to him. I've never seen the original Road House, and when I put this one on I wasn't really planning to review it, but I found myself really getting into it. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Both the characters and the story were a lot more engaging and compelling than I thought they would be. The story sucked me in right from the beginning and I was interested the whole way through. The cast is great, but Jake Gyllenhaal completely carries the film and plays the character of Dalton really well. Again, I can't compare his performance to the original, but I really like the character. The fight scenes, which are pretty much what the film is about, are done really well. The Matrix | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Next up for the Bucket List was a first-time watch. This is one that I had obviously heard of but knew next to nothing about. I found that it took a long time for me to connect with the story, and even then, while the film was interesting to watch, I never felt particularly invested in it. There were a lot of recognisable, iconic moments that I appreciated, and I get how much of an impact it had on sci-fi (and probably movies in general), but I don't know if it was for me. I somewhat enjoyed it, I understood everything that happened, but never felt connected, and didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. It could just be that I need to re-watch it, and I probably will, but for a first watch, I didn't take to it as much as I wanted to. But that being said, I'm glad I finally watched it!

Scarface (1983) | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up for the Bucket List was another first-time watch! I'd seen the original 1932 film years ago and really liked it, but I never got around to watching this (undoubtedly more popular) version, so I'm glad it was on the list. I really really liked this movie. I'm not sure if I like it more than, or the same as the original, but I definitely had a great time with it. One thing about finally seeing all these classic movies is seeing how much impact they've had on pop culture, and this film is definitely no exception. It's so quotable, there are so many iconic images, and it's one that everyone should watch if they haven't seen it before. The most talked-about aspect of this film is probably the violence, and that's so interesting to see. Not only the way it's spoken about, but also the difference between violence in older films like this and newer releases. My Problem With '8 Simple Rules'

Hey Guys x Today's post might come out as more of a rant, which I'm OK with because I haven't ranted about something in a while! Last year, I started watching the show '8 Simple Rules' when it started playing on Comedy Central. It originally came on between 2002 and 2005 but I didn't watch it when it was first on. Anyway, I really got into it. There were only three seasons, so it was over before I wanted it to be. And I loved this show, and I still love it. Comedy Central doesn't play it anymore but if it did I would dive right back into it because I love a good sitcom. However, I have a major gripe with a plotline of the show, that got more prominent in season 2/3. Let me just explain the characters a bit, so you know who I'm taking about in case you never watched it. If I Stay | Film Review

Hey Guys x This film is also a book, which I reviewed here last September. I saw this film for the first time a couple of weeks ago when it came on a Sky Movies for the first time. I had always wanted to watch it because I really enjoyed reading the book. But I have to say - and this is probably the only time I'll ever say this - the film was so much better than the book! It's about a girl called Mia who lives with her parents and younger brother Teddy. The film shows two completely different times. On the one hand, it shows Mia's life leading up to the main 'incident' of the film, and on the other hand, it shows everything that happens after the incident. In the film, Mia has to make some really tough decisions. I don't want to give too much away, but the main decision is whether she should stay or go, and there are a lot of reasons to do both, which is hard to digest, especially for a 7 year old.
